Robotic radiotherapy device delivers precise radiation treatments more quickly so patients can make a faster return to the activities they enjoy

St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center (SMMC) is now treating patients with the new CyberKnife® S7™ System, a fully robotic device that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors throughout the body. SMMC is the only facility in the Tri-State area and West Virginia with CyberKnife, which has been available at SMMC since 2007.

The CyberKnife S7 system uses artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology to adapt for any tumor or patient movement in real time throughout the cancer treatment delivery. A non-surgical, non-invasive treatment, CyberKnife is able to treat tumors and lesions in the head, neck, spine, lung, pancreas, liver, kidney, pelvis, prostate and other areas as appropriate. Treatment is administered during an outpatient procedure in typically five or fewer sessions, compared to 40 treatments in traditional radiation therapy.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer patients treatment with one of the most advanced options available,” said Sanjeev Sharma, MD, board-certified radiation oncologist at St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center. The Cyberknife S7 System will allow us to effectively treat a wider range of tumor types more quickly than ever, meaning more patients will now have the opportunity to benefit from the precise treatments the CyberKnife system delivers.”
