Huntington's Kitchen announces May class schedule

Huntington’s Kitchen, a community outreach program of Cabell Huntington Hospital, has announced its cooking class schedule for May 2022. All classes are limited to 16 participants, ages 15 and up, unless otherwise specified. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Registration is required by calling 304.522.0887 or by visiting huntingtons-kitchen.org.

Monday, May 2

Tarts with a Twist

Everyone loves French onion soup. We’re going to give it a twist and make it a tart. Participants will make the tart dough from scratch while caramelizing the onions. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.

Wednesday, May 4

Global Cooking, Local Eating

Learn how to make foods from around the world with local ingredients as we prepare a chicken tikka masala with steamed rice. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.

Thursday, May 5

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

Everyone loves tacos on Cinco de Mayo, so we’ll be making beef birria tacos. These tacos are braised in a rich and flavorful broth, before shredding the meat and serving with the cooking liquid for dipping. We’ll be making a Mexican street corn salad to go with it. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.

Monday, May 9

Sushi 101

Sushi is not only fun to eat, but also fun to make. Get a firsthand lesson on making sushi rice and rolls. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $30 per person.

Wednesday, May 11

Back to Basics

Everyone loves meatloaf, but not all meatloaves are the same. In this class, we’ll learn how to make one of the best – meatloaf paired with sautéed green beans. This class is offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.

Wednesday, May 18

Family Pairs

Cooking can be a great way to spend time with your little one. This class allows one child, age 7 or older, and their parent/guardian to make a light, healthy meal together as we prepare chicken pot pie. This class is limited to eight pairs (one parent/guardian and one child). This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $40 per pair

Shaksuka

Shakshuka is a bright and spicy egg dish from Israel. We’ll learn to make this exotic dish at home to start your day with a little kick. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.

Tuesday, May 24

Fish Taco Tuesday

It’s Taco Tuesday, and we’re going to be making fish tacos with slaw, pico de gallo and spicy crema. This event will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person

Monday, May 30

Family Pizza Night

Cooking can be a great way to spend time with your little one. This class allows one child, age 7 or older, and their parent/guardian to make a light, healthy meal together. We’re throwing a pizza party by making our dough from scratch, then topping and baking each pizza. This class is limited to eight pairs (one parent/guardian and one child). Child must be 7 years or older. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $40 per pair

Huntington’s Kitchen is a community food center where people come to learn, cook and experience everything well-prepared food and healthy living have to offer. Its mission is to help prevent and reduce diet-related disease through education about healthy food and healthy cooking.
