CHH emergency physician completes Executive Leaders Program at Naval Postgraduate School

Thursday, February 17

Dominique Wong, MD, an emergency physician at Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH), has completed the Executive Leaders Program (ELP) at the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (NPS-CHDS).

During the 12-month program, Wong collaborated with homeland security officials from across the nation on current policy, strategy and organizational design challenges. The NPS-CHDS students represent a snapshot of the homeland security enterprise, including professionals from the fields of emergency management, education, law enforcement, fire service, homeland security, public health and city/county government.

In addition to completing the program, Wong was the recipient of the Ellen M. Gordon Award, which is voted on by the ELP cohort. The Ellen M. Gordon awardee is selected based on their ability to seek knowledge beyond what is commonly known, to challenge the status quo and to look beyond standard practices and procedures to expand existing viewpoints in the homeland security enterprise.

Dr. Wong is chair of CHHs Medical Readiness Committee with responsibilities including emergency medical care, disaster preparedness, EMS medical direction, law enforcement first aid and mass casualty training. She is an active member of the Cabell/Wayne Homeland Security Group and the Cabell/Wayne Local Emergency Planning Committee. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Cornell University.

Located at the Naval Postgraduate School, CHDS is the nation’s homeland security educator. The ELP develops critical thinking, leadership, and policy skills during a rigorous 12-month program. CHDS is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Preparedness Directorate, within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). For information, visit www.chds.us.
